Puritan Financial Group would like to shed light on a few charities that we have come to know and appreciate. While this is by no means an exhaustive list, we appreciate how these charities have impacted our community.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is based in Atlanta, Georgia and focuses on building homes for people in need all over the world. Families’ activities typically center around the home, and giving folks who don’t have decent housing on opportunity to have a home is the first step towards their independence. Habitat for Humanity focuses on a joint partnership between the volunteers and the future homeowner, so the beneficiary participates in the process.

African Children’s Mission

Malaria is preventable, but causes nearly 500 million illnesses each year and kills more than 1 million of those who become infected. Ninety percent of deaths caused by malaria occur in Africa, where the disease is a leading killer of children. Every 30 seconds a child in Africa dies from malaria. Studies show that use of long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets can reduce transmission as much as 90 percent in areas with high coverage rates. African Children’s Mission is based in Birmingham, Alabama, and provides an array of services for the children of Africa.

Shoes for Orphan Souls

So much of the third world’s communities, especially its children, live in such extreme poverty where hope is nowhere to be found. And the absence of hope in a person’s life causes despair and soulful darkness.

Shoes for Orphan Souls, a ministry of Buckner International, reaches out to love, help, and care for people in crisis. Right now that means taking action to alleviate the suffering in Haiti. Shoes for Orphan Souls is conducting a shoe drive for the thousands of Haitians orphans in need, to provide them with this most basic of human comforts.
